The Sunshine Coast Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Rugby 7s tournament braved less than ideal conditions on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, as 25 school teams gathered at the Caloundra Rugby Club.

Torrential downpours in the days leading in, transformed the fields into a muddy battleground, testing the handling skills and agility of the young athletes. Despite the incredibly wet and slippery conditions, the tournament proceeded with a high level of sportsmanship and a lot of excited players. Special gratitude was extended to the Caloundra Rugby Club, whose dedicated grounds team kept the facility open despite the deluge, allowing the carnival to proceed safely.

A highlight of the day was the immense dedication shown by St Joseph's Primary School, Murgon, whose team made the long journey from the South Burnett region just to compete, earning loud cheers from the muddy sidelines.

 Amidst the challenging conditions, several schools rose to the top of their divisions. Results below;

 Stella Maris Catholic Primary School dominated the field, claiming championship titles in both the Year 4/5 Mixed Division 1 and the Year 5/6 Division 1 categories. Saint Thomas More School secured a hard-fought victory as the Year 4/5 Mixed Division 2 winners, while St Peter's Catholic Primary School triumphed in the Year 5/6 Division 2 bracket. The Year 5/6 Girls crown went to Siena Catholic Primary School after a spectacular display of teamwork. By the afternoon, the carnival wrapped up as a triumph of endurance, leaving players covered in mud but celebrating a memorable day of regional school sports.
