Since its humble beginnings in 1999 as the Metropolitan Cup, the Ballymore Cup has grown into one of Queensland’s premier schoolboy rugby tournaments. What started as a local knockout competition for schools outside the traditional rugby nurseries has evolved into a statewide showcase of emerging talent, uniting schools from every corner of Queensland in the spirit of competition, respect, and camaraderie.
For more than two decades, the Ballymore Cup has provided young players with the chance to represent their schools, test themselves against quality opposition and create lifelong memories. It has become a competition synonymous with development, strong school rivalries and the next generation of Queensland rugby.
Following the successful introduction of the invitational format, the 2027 Ballymore Cup will once again bring together schools that have demonstrated a strong commitment to rugby and regular XVs competition throughout the season. The invitational structure ensures a highly competitive tournament while continuing to celebrate the growth of school rugby across Queensland.
The Ballymore Cup remains one of the highlights of the Queensland Rugby school calendar, offering players the opportunity to compete against the state's leading emerging rugby programs in a professionally delivered tournament.
