Queensland’s biggest school rugby sevens event just got even bigger. In 2026, the All Schools 7s evolves into the Santos Q7s State Championship — a fresh, fast, and fiercely competitive new era for school rugby sevens.

From the beaches of the Gold Coast to the heart of the Outback, schools across Queensland will battle it out through a series of regional qualifying tournaments, each one a stepping stone on the road to the State Finals in Brisbane.

Here, the top 16 teams in each division, Boys and Girls: U18, U16, and U14, will go head-to-head for Queensland supremacy. It’s two action-packed days of elite school rugby sevens, showcasing speed, skill, and school pride on the state’s biggest stage.

The Road to the Championship

The journey to the Q7s begins in regional Queensland, where teams will compete in qualifying tournaments across: North Queensland, Central Queensland, Sunshine Coast, Darling Downs, South Coast, and the Metropolitan regions.

Each region will send its champions and top contenders to represent their area at the State Finals, ensuring every corner of Queensland is on display. It’s not just about making it to Brisbane, it’s about earning it. Every pass, every tackle, and every try brings players one step closer to the ultimate prize: being crowned Queensland’s best.

By registering for your regional Q7s qualifying tournament, your school joins a network of competitions held across Queensland ,from North and Central Queensland to the South Coast and Metropolitan regions. Perform well, and you could earn your place at the Q7s State Finals in Brisbane, where the top 16 schools from each division will battle for state glory.

Q7 Regional Qualifiers

Regional Q7s Qualifying Tournaments

The Regional Q7s Qualifying Tournaments are open to:

  • Schools that regularly participate in recognised rugby competitions or associations (e.g. GPS, AIC, TAS, APS, SECA, SCISSA, CASSA, School Girls Cup).
  • Schools with established rugby programs and experienced players.
  • Schools seeking qualification for the Queensland Rugby All Schools Q7s Finals.

Tournament Format:

  • Full competitive structure (pool matches leading to finals).
  • Results must be entered in Rugby Xplorer by participating schools.
  • Winning and runner-up schools may qualify for the All Schools Finals, subject to event size and structure.

Regional Eligibility:

  • Each Regional Q7s tournament represents a specific district or region (e.g. Met East, Met West, Darling Downs).
  • Schools from outside the designated region may participate but are ineligible to qualify for the All Schools Finals.
  • If an out-of-region team finishes in a qualifying position, the next highest placed eligible in-region team will qualify.
  • QRU reserves the right to award wildcard entries to ensure balanced regional representation at the Finals.

Qualification and Selection Criteria

  • If a school has already qualified for the All Schools Finals through another regional tournament, the next best placed eligible team will be invited.
  • QRU reserves the right to determine final eligibility and placement decisions, which will be final and binding.

Divisions: Boys U18 | U16 | U14 Girls U18 | U16 | U14

Structure

  • 16 teams per division
  • Teams will play 5 games with finalists playing 6
  • Day 1: 4 pools of 4 teams | 3 games per team
  • Day 2: Quarter Finals | Cup & Plate (top 2 each pool) | Bowl & Pennant (bottom 2 each pool)
