Two-time National Rugby Championship winner Adam Korczyk has been named captain of McInnes Wilson Lawyers Brisbane City for the upcoming 2018 season.
The 23-year-old flanker has featured in all four of Brisbane City’s NRC campaigns to date, including their back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015.
Korczyk’s ability as a player and leader are well known to Brisbane City head coach Mick Heenan, who has also coached him at club side University of Queensland.
“I’ve known Adam for a long time. When you think about the characteristics you want in your captain, he was an obvious choice,” Heenan said.
“He is a guy who has come through club Rugby to represent both Brisbane City and the Reds. He has also been involved in Wallabies training squads in the last couple of years. He’s an experienced, physical and uncompromising player who sets a great example for the team.“I don’t expect he’ll do a whole lot of talking, he likes to let his actions do that for him.”
Korczyk made his City debut in the side’s opening match of the inaugural season in 2014 and has since been capped 22 times.
His first season in the NRC was the catalyst to higher honours, as he made his Super Rugby debut for the St.George Queensland Reds the following year.
“It’s obviously a proud moment for me. I’ve been involved with Brisbane City since the first season of the NRC, so it means a lot to get the opportunity to captain the side. I hope I can use my experience to help get the team back to where we were in those early years,” Korczyk said.
“The NRC is such a great opportunity for all the players involved. It’s beneficial for everyone. I know personally, that extra bit of footy each season has really helped my development.“We’re looking forward to the season getting underway and hopefully the Rugby community gets behind the NRC, especially considering we’re taking all our home games to local clubs this season. It would be great to see that support for Brisbane City.”
McInnes Wilson Lawyers Brisbane City’s season gets underway this Sunday 2 September, with an opening round match against the Western Force at Norths Rugby Club (Hugh Courtney Oval) at 3:00pm.
Entry to the match is free.
It will also be broadcast live on Fox Sports.
