Over the coming week, the best Women’s Rugby players from regional Queensland will converge on Brisbane to go head-to-head with their City counterparts in a three-game series – the Queensland Women’s Challenge Series.

The Queensland Country Orchids will play matches against City North, City West and City South, with the City teams to consist of players from Queensland Premier Rugby and Queensland Suburban Rugby competitions.

The City North team, which will consist of players from Norths, Brothers, GPS and Brisbane Irish, will be coached by Dom Clark from Norths and Nina Poletti from Brothers.

The City West team, which will see players from Souths, Wests and University of Queensland come together, will be coached by Souths head coach Dave Baldwin and UQ’s Derby Malaulau.

Easts, Sunnybank, Bond University, Coomera and Redlands will feed into the City South team and they will be coach by Sunnybank’s Cam Byram and Souths’ Jess Saolele.

The Queensland Country Orchids squad was named following the Queensland Country Championships, which were held in Toowoomba in early July and will see players from different regional areas around Queensland come together under the Cooktown Orchid banner.

Queensland Reds Super W head coach Simon Craig has overseen the selections for the City teams, and will use the three-match series as a talent ID opportunity ahead of the 2023 Super W season.

The first match will kick off this Saturday night at Norths at 6:30pm AEST. Matches will be live streamed via the Queensland Rugby Facebook page.

Team lists will be announced closer to each match day via social media.
