Queensland first faced the ACT Brumbies in their Round 8 'Rodeo' match of the 1996 Super Rugby season.

Even after six consecutive Reds’ wins, their first Bruce Stadium rodeo was always going to be a tough game. The Reds fielded a daunting thirteen current or future Wallabies, including electrifying winger Ben Tune and game-breaking centre Daniel Herbert, who both crossed for tries.

A heartbreaking missed kick in the dying moments sent the Reds back to Brisbane with a narrow, 20-21 loss.

The tight, high-quality match set the standard for decades of Reds-Brumbies clashes.

On Saturday 7 April, 2018, the St.George Queensland Reds will play in Queensland Rugby's 998th capped match and their 36th against the ACT powerhouse.
