The Schoolgirls Super 7s (SGS7s) season reached its climax this week.

The Championship round at Ballymore Stadium on Thursday 20th of August, brought the curtain down on a four-tournament series that began with three seeding rounds and finished with the top schools going head-to-head for silverware across the U14, U16 and U18 grades.

Having earned their seeding across rounds one through three, teams were split into Division 1 and Division 2 pools for the U14s and U16s, with the U18s contesting a two-pool and finals format. It made for a Championship round packed with quality rugby, and by the end of the day it was a case of history repeating in two grades. King's Christian College claimed both the U14 and U16 Division 1 Cups, going through the day unbeaten in each grade and backing up as back-to-back champions in both age groups. The Glennie School made it a clean sweep of repeat title-holders, going back-to-back of their own with the U18 Cup. Division 2 honours were shared around, with the Bowl Final doubling as the Division 2 decider in both grades. Sunshine Coast Grammar School topped the U14 Division 2 draw with a 22-0 win over Fairholme College to finish 5th overall, while the U16 Division 2 decider between Miami State High School and Kelvin Grove State College finished locked at 19-19, with both schools sharing top spot in the division. Further down the placings, Miami State High School (U14) and Fairholme College (U16) won through the Plate Final to finish 3rd, while Kelvin Grove State College (U14) and Sunshine Coast Grammar School (U16) took out the Shield Final to round out the placings in 7th.

Beyond the results, the real story of SGS7s is what it means for the pathway ahead. Every school that competed across the four-tournament series has now qualified for the Q7s State Cup, to be held on September 3–4 at Brisabane Grammar Playing fields. It's the next big step for these squads, and after a season of high-quality, high-intensity sevens rugby at Ballymore, they head into it well tested and battle-ready.

Congratulations to all the schools, players and coaches who made the SGS7s series such a success — see you at Q7s State Cup!
