Central Highlands, Emerald QLD proudly hosted the inaugural Legacy Primary 7s Program, marking a major milestone for rugby development across Central Queensland!
Backed by the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and funded by the Queensland Government, the 2026 program has launched a new “Workforce First” model — building strong, sustainable rugby communities from the ground up.
Key Highlights: - Local Community Coordinator appointed to drive long-term regional growth - Strong school engagement with primary and secondary schools across the region - Coaching & referee accreditation courses delivered to build local capability - QRU rolled out Get Into Rugby 7s clinics, inspiring the next generation - The Western 7s Primary Schools Gala wrapped up the program with 20 teams competing in U10 & U12 divisions — with exciting plans for girls-only divisions ahead!
A standout moment came from Capricorn Distance Education (Emerald Campus), where students traveling from across Central Queensland joined in. Over 80 participants took part in 7s clinics during the week, leading to 4 teams competing in the gala event — a true testament to inclusivity and reach.
