With metropolitan Brisbane and a number of regional areas throughout Queensland entering into a three-day lockdown at 6:00pm this evening, as advised by the Queensland Government, there are a number of competitions that will be impacted over the coming days.

The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) would like to acknowledge the prompt actions of the various affiliated organisations that are affected by the current business restrictions for coronavirus (COVID-19) in Queensland with respect to the three-day lockdown. The nature of Rugby events and participation during the school vacation period is both diverse and complex and cannot be appropriately managed by a single unitary decision in these circumstances.

We understand that the individual circumstances of some Rugby participants may result in differing levels of compromise. Participants should respectfully raise any questions with the relevant Rugby body with which they are registered for the competition or activity.

On behalf of QRU we would encourage everyone to protect their personal health and that of their community by complying with the directives of the Queensland Government.

Queensland Rugby Junior State Championships

Communications have been sent to all competing affiliates advising that based on the health advice and restrictions introduced by the Queensland Government this morning, QRU and Downs Rugby have taken a prudent approach to ensure the health and safety of all our players and volunteers are taken seriously.  As you can imagine, it’s with great disappointment that I advise you that the State Championships event will not be proceeding.

Queensland Country Heelers U19s matches

The Queensland Country Rugby Union (QCRU) has advised QRU that with the unfolding situation and the impact on various regional areas around Queensland, they’ve made the decision to postpone the Queensland Country U19s matches that were due to take place over the coming week. The QCRU will make a decision on when they can recommence the U19s representative program in the future and will communicate with relevant sub-unions and affiliates.
