The Queensland Open Schoolboys Trials kick-off at Ballymore tonight, with the best Rugby talent from the Greater Public Schools (GPS), Associated Independent Schools (AIC) and Combined Secondary Schools (CSS) converge on Ballymore.

Six teams will compete across the three days of competition, Wednesday 21 June to Friday 23 June, with players vying for selection in the 2017 Queensland Schoolboys sides.

Rugby is alive and kicking in the Central Highlands, with a record breaking four Marist College Emerald students being selected for the Combined Secondary School’s (CSS) team.

A brilliant achievement given the school’s First XV has only been in operation for two years.

“To get any boys, let alone four boys into this CSS team is just amazing,” said Marist head coach Jim Fabish.

The commitment shown by these players in the highlands is immense, with the team having to travel at least three hours to Rockhampton for their matches.

“The commitment they show to do that every weekend transitions into their performance on the field.

“They are getting their rewards now,” Fabish said.

Joseph Fabish (Jim’s son), Luke Abraham, Harrison Hooper and Tane Costar are all testament to the possibilities that Queensland Rugby Union offers, regardless of the location.

“We really promote these boys with where they are going with their rugby to let the younger ones know that there is a pathway,” Fabish said.

“If we could get one or even more of these players into the Queensland Schoolboy sides, Emerald would be bursting with pride.”

“It’s a possibility for these boys, they are playing hard and they are training the house down,” Fabish said.

The boys will get their first opportunity tonight, as CSS takes on the Chairman’s XV in their first game.
