About your Regional Rugby Manager (RRM)
Joel has been with the QRU for 3 years as an RRM for Metropolitan West and Darling Downs and has now moved regions to Metropolitan South and Gold Coast. Before working in the Sports industry, Joel had a long career as a HPE teacher, Rugby coach and Director of Sport.
Joel is a Level 2 Coach and a World Rugby Educator and Trainer.
Strategy
The Regional Rugby Manager (RRM) are primarily responsible for the delivery of the QRU Strategic Plan 2026-30.
The RRM is the primary contact for QRU affiliates within their region and will work collaboratively with these affiliates to deliver aligned outcomes.
RRMs are supported by a network of employed Enablers who are content specialists in focus areas.

- Establish Gold Coast Schools Advisory Group
- Increase the availability of Game Activator Courses for Get into Rugby (U4-U7)
- Increase the availability of Junior Coaching Courses
- Increase in the number of registered accredited coaches at clubs and schools
- Targeted support for the APS association Rugby competition
- Referee Ready Courses in APS Schools and Cyclones Academy
- Support the GIR Walla Pilot program on the Gold Coast
- Development of a Logan Rugby strategy
- Support the mentorship of Forest Lake Junior Rugby Club by Sunnybank Rugby Club
- Increased Female Leadership and capacity support through Girls Can Tackle Anything programming
