As the Associated Schools competition enters its final round, John Paul College sit atop the ladder with a premiership-deciding match against St Paul’s this Saturday.

Going six for six so far this season, JPC are the favourites heading into the final round to take out the premiership. The boys from the south have also accrued 4 try bonus points in all of their matches, sitting one point above the closest contenders, St Paul’s College.

Having begun the season with a tough away win over St Columban’s 24-26, the JPC boys have dismantled all of their opposition with relative ease amassing 395 points for, compared to a miniscule 50 against.

After Brisbane’s near hurricane conditions abandoned all rugby for round 6, the burgundy and blue now face a grand-final showdown with St Paul’s College to see who will take out the 2016 TAS Rugby premiership.

St Paul’s, who would’ve faced the third placed St Columban’s College on the weekend, are the only other undefeated team in the competition. Heading into this Saturday’s showdown, St Paul’s will be looking to upset the favourites in what should be a cracker of a contest.

Head of rugby at JPC, Allan Dennis attributed his teams success to the confidence in each position the side has. He said “ So far this season our ability to be interchangeable with all positions has really helped, the boys have been playing some great rugby week-in week-out.

“We’ve had our fair share of rep players this season which is good, so the boys know what is coming as we go into each round.”

When asked about the grand final this week against St Paul’s, he stated, “ They will definitely be a step up in terms of intensity, but the boys are up for it.

“Individuals wont win us our games, commitment and working for each other when it really matters will.”

The Associated Schools Rugby competition concludes this weekend, the 11th of June.
