The Queensland Rugby Union is delighted to announce that Wallabies centre Josh Flook has agreed to extend his deal at the Queensland Reds to the end of 2026.
The one-year extension locks in an essential backline figure who has been an impressive member of the Reds for 55 games since his debut at 18 in 2020.
Flook’s strong performances in the maroon jersey in 2024 catapulted him to the next level with a Test debut for the Wallabies against Wales and four caps in all.
Still just 23, Flook is on the verge of a return to action in Super Rugby Pacific after a diligent rehabilitation from a hamstring injury sustained in Round Three.
“It’s another season down the track. The Reds have improved again and I’m really enjoying the direction of the team and the organisation as a whole,” Flook said.
“I’ve grown up playing with a lot of these guys at the Reds. This club, this team, is a big part of my life and when you see plenty of the boys re-signing, you don’t want to be anywhere else.
“Ballymore is a friendly place to come into each day whether it’s on the footy side or having a chat to office staff. It’s a good environment.”
Reds Head Coach Les Kiss says it is a credit to Flook and the Reds medical staff that the centre will be available weeks ahead of the initial return-to-play timeline.
“Having a 50-capper like ‘Flooky’ re-signing is great news for the Reds. He’s an impressive player in attack and defence with his communication and timing a key strength which makes others around him better as well,” Kiss said.
“Our medical and rehab staff have done an excellent job in working with Josh to get him back in shape for a return weeks ahead of the initial forecast.”
Flook had already scored two tries in the March 1 clash against the Western Force in Perth when he was grounded.
“The boys sitting next to me on the sidelines are probably happiest to see me back earlier than expected because I do go a bit hardcore with my vocal support during games,” Flook said with a grin.
He ran the water and coaches’ messages during last Friday night’s tight 31-27 loss to the Hurricanes at Suncorp Stadium.
“I definitely felt more a part of game day again,” Flook said.
“This Saturday night is the last regular season home game for the Reds at Suncorp Stadium. It’s going to be a huge last round with so many possibilities still in play for the finals.
“Everyone at the Reds will be up for the game and we know the Fijian Drua will be trying to ruin the party when they come to Brisbane.”
Flook’s break has enabled him to concentrate more time on finishing his Bachelor of Business degree at QUT with his final assignments due over the next week.
