The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) are pleased to invite prospective students to an information evening on Monday 21 October at National Rugby Training Centre at Ballymore Stadium in Herston for their 2025 Diploma of Sport program (SIS50321) delivered in partnership with TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275).

The year-long diploma specialising in rugby union allows students the opportunity to study in a practical, hands-on learning environment, and gain real experience through work integrated learning facilitated by Queensland Rugby Union.

This program is ideal for students passionate about rugby, looking for a pathway into the sports industry or to help facilitate further study options.

The course covers coaching fundamentals including how to plan and deliver coaching programs for players as well as being introduced to the area of sports development and discover how to design, deliver and manage a range of community sport and recreation activities for the general public.

Based at the BMS National Rugby Training Centre at Ballymore (NRTC), students will have access to some of Queensland’s best rugby facilities, quality learning spaces, a high-performance strength and conditioning gym, and regularly engage with guest presenters from Queensland Rugby Union, the Reds and the wider sports industry.

QRU General Manager of Community Rugby Gaven Head said: “The school and club network will drive the future success of Rugby and sport generally as we move towards the 2032 Olympics."

"Graduates of this diploma course are well positioned to drive the future success of our industry. Participants in the QRU Diploma will have access to state-of-the-art facilities at the BMS National Training Centre and expert mentors, ensuring a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience.”

Don Harley, TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport Manager said: “TAFE Queensland are immensely excited about launching into the new year of our program delivery in partnership with Queensland Rugby Union.”

“The future of rugby union in Australia is so bright, led by the continuation of the strong Queensland Reds brand, but also with the enormous expansion of women’s rugby union and formats such as Rugby Sevens which will be a feature of our home Olympics in 2032.”

“The time is now right to continue to foster the next intake of student with a view to working towards employment right across the rugby industry, whether that be at grassroots level, in administration or in pursuit of further studies.”
