Eight Queensland Under-20s players have been named in the Australian U20s side for their clash against the Australian Barbarians at Sydney’s Chatswood Oval this Tuesday night.

University of Queensland forwards Harry Hockings and Angus Scott-Young will be joined in the starting line up by Joey Fittock, Liam Jurd and Liam McNamara in the backs. Richie Asiata, Harry Nucifora and Moses Sorovi have all been named in the reserves.

With little over two weeks until Australia’s first match against Scotland, Thompson has opted to look at players across his squad with 13 changes to the starting side that defeated New Zealand U20s on the Gold Coast earlier this month.

“This match against the Barbarians will give us an opportunity to test the depth of our entire squad and get more match fitness heading into the World Championship,” Thompson said.

“The Barbarians fixtures have always given us a good test to see how we react in pressure situations against the older guys and I look forward to seeing who from the U20s puts their hand up with a good performance.”
The Australian Barbarians will have Club Rugby players from Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane to represent the historic touring club.

Queenslanders Phil Potgieter (University), Waita Setu (GPS), Michael Richards (GPS), Richie Skelton (Brothers) and Jeremy Skelton (Brothers) have all been selected in the Australian Barbarians squad.

The match will take place at Chatswood Oval in Sydney on Tuesday 24 May kicking off at 7.30pm AEST.
