The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) has confirmed Dr Michael Carroll as a new Board-Appointed Director following a QRU Board meeting held at St.George Ballymore House earlier this month.

Dr Carroll is the Headmaster of St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace in Brisbane and - as a teacher of 35 years – has coached school teams including First XV teams at TAS, AIC and GPS levels, as well as at club level.

Dr Carroll also played over 200 games for Souths Rugby Club and has remained an advocate for grass-roots participation throughout his professional career.

QRU Chairman Jeff Miller said: “The QRU is delighted to add Michael to the Board to complement the existing skills already represented.

Michael has over 35 years of experience in schools Rugby in Queensland and our focus as an organisation must continue to be on increasing participation amongst schoolboys and girls across the state.

“Michael’s appointment gives the organisation appropriate focus and a voice at Board-level to one of our most important breeding grounds for talent – our schools. To have an experienced school Principal on our Board will be invaluable to us as we continue to pursue our strategic goals and grow the game of Rugby in Queensland.”
