Australia’s women’s Olympic Rugby Sevens side have taken out the team of the year award at the Women’s Health I Support Women in Sport Awards in Sydney last night.

The event saw Australian sports heroes from across the country celebrate at the Carriageworks Arts Centre.

But it was the Women’s Sevens side that stole the show following their performance at the Olympics.

Back in August, the side created history when they become the first Olympic Gold Medalists in Women’s Rugby Sevens.

10 Queenslanders are in the Australian Women’s squad and six of these competed at Rio.

Queensland Rugby Union’s (QRU) QAS Women’s Sevens Academy has been fundamental in assisting the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens success and aims to continue to develop future Olympians.
